Milence, the electric truck charging joint venture, has announced the construction of a new charging location in Perpignan, France, scheduled to go online in September 2024. This marks Milence’s second site in France, following the opening of its first site in Heudebouville, Normandy.
According to a press release from the company, the Perpignan site will initially feature three CCS chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW of power. In a later phase, the site will be expanded to include megawatt chargers, consistent with Milence’s two-stage approach to charging hub development.
The strategic location of the new site near the A9 motorway is key, as it serves as a vital logistics route connecting Spain with France and northern Europe. Milence highlights Perpignan’s proximity to the Spanish border, describing it as an important industrial area for the transport of fruit and vegetables throughout Europe.
Milence, representing its shareholders Daimler Truck, Traton, and the Volvo Group, aims to install 1,700 charging points across Europe within five years. The joint venture has already launched charging parks in Venlo near the Dutch-German border and Heudebouville, France. Future openings include a charging park in the Belgian port of Antwerp-Bruges, as well as hubs in Varberg and Ödeshög, Sweden. A location in Ghent, Belgium, has been announced but not yet confirmed. By 2027, Milence’s charging network is expected to span 15 nations.
