Mercedes-Benz Vans to build electric-only plant in Jawor, Poland

Mercedes-Benz Vans will invest more than 1 billion euros to build the first electric van factory in Jawor, Poland. The producer from Germany said that he was currently still waiting for further approvals such as signing subsidies for investment in the country, Reuters, Monday, December 12, 2022.

The van manufacturer, a division of Mercedes-Benz, has signed a declaration with the Polish government and other partners to add an electric van factory to the Jawor site where they manufacture combustion engines and batteries for Mercedes-Benz cars.

The plant will be the fourth in Mercedes-Benz’s European van production network, which was reorganized to produce only fully electric vans built on the VAN platform.

The possibility of expanding the factory through a joint venture with US electric van manufacturer Rivian will not occur again as the US company has re-prioritized planned projects, the statement said, confirming Rivian’s statement.

The companies had said in September they planned a joint venture to manufacture electric vans at a factory in Poland, Hungary or Romania in the next few years, but Rivian said on Monday it would focus on existing consumer and commercial businesses.
