Mercedes-Benz announced the presence of its newest SUV, the AMG EQE 2024, which is also the first fully electric SUV from the Mercedes-AMG sports and performance car division.
With its spacious interior and performance-oriented drive concept, it is claimed to be the most versatile electric vehicle in the Mercedes-AMG portfolio.
Like the AMG EQS Sedan and AMG EQE Sedan, the AMG EQE SUV is based on the electric platform from Mercedes-EQ. Two powerful electric motors and switchable all-wheel drive form the basis for AMG’s signature dynamic driving experience.
To ensure a comfortable ride, Mercedes-AMG has paired the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension with the Adaptive Damping System, rear axle steering and AMG Active Ride Control–AMG’s special roll stabilization system.
“This new model is our first all-electric SUV. And, after the AMG EQS and AMG EQE Sedan models, this is the third performance model we have been able to realize as a derivative of the Mercedes-EQ electric platform,” said Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-EQ. AMG GmbH, in a company statement Monday.
The exterior design of the AMG EQE SUV is characterized by surfaces with reduced joints, and smooth transitions. Dynamic proportions accentuate the sporty character with a number of special AMG features, including the AMG black panel radiator grille with chrome plated vertical struts.
AMG-specific wheel arch cladding in body colours, seamlessly integrated door handles and aerodynamically optimized 21 or 22-inch AMG alloy wheels add further visual accents.
The rear fascia in body color with an aerodynamically optimized diffuser and elongated fins and taillights in a helical design also emphasizes the dynamic look of the vehicle.
The interior is also dominated by style-defining AMG features, including individual patterned seats and custom upholstery in MB-Tex with microfiber and red topstitching.
Alternatively, Nappa leather upholstery is optionally available, also with an AMG-specific seat pattern. The AMG badge on the front seat backs and the embossed AMG badge on the front headrests emphasize the brand image.
The AMG EQE SUV can optionally be equipped with the innovative MBUX Hyperscreen. This large, curved display unit extends from the A-pillar to the A-pillar. The three screens are under a single glass enclosure and visually merge into one.
MBUX offers a variety of additional AMG functions that emphasize the character of performance. This is especially true for the signature display in the instrument cluster, as well as the multimedia display and heads-up display. Quick access to the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program is provided by the corresponding direct entry buttons on the center console.
The Dolby Atmos® sound format takes the audio experience in the AMG EQE SUV to a new level. Individual instruments or voices in a studio mix can be positioned around the listening area.
The powerful electric powertrain (eATS) with motors on the front and rear axles features fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, which optimally transmits propulsion to the road in all driving conditions.
The power output of the AMG EQE SUV ranges from 617 hp to 677 hp with the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package with the Boost function.
The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV MO1 tires, which are specifically tailored to the needs of AMG Performance all-electric vehicles, also contribute to the vehicle’s dynamic character.
Available on 21 and 22 inch wheels, these tires have low rolling resistance combined with outstanding grip on wet and dry roads.
The new Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is equipped with a powerful 328 volt high-performance drive battery manufactured using the latest lithium-ion technology. It has a usable energy content of 90.6 kWh and consists of ten modules for a total of 360 pocket cells.
The energy storage system can charge up to 170 kW of direct current charging stations. In this case, approximately 100 miles (170 kilometers, WLTP) of electricity can be recharged in just 15 minutes.
Thanks to the onboard 9.6 kW2 charger, the AMG EQE SUV can be charged comfortably at home or at a public charging station with alternating current. In addition, there is a smart charging program that can be activated automatically depending on the location.
