The Sigma 8 electric bus has just been introduced to the public at the EuroBus Expo. British bus manufacturer Mellor, which manufactures the Sigma 8, says the electric bus can carry 54 passengers with 27 seats and standing room.
The Sigma 8 electric bus is the latest model in Sigma’s six-model range (from seven to 12 metres) to enter the UK market. This model complements the seven and 10 meter models that were present earlier.
Mellor says its ability to manufacture a wide range of electric buses of different sizes has put it in a good position in the market.
Mellor also offers various variants of the Sigma 7 and Sigma 9 electric buses. The Sigma 7 electric buses are now available in four different low and high floor variants, while the Sigma 9 is now available as two individual model variants.
So far, Mellor has received over 100 orders for Sigma electric buses for the UK and European local markets. One of the companies that ordered electric buses from Mellor was London Hire with a Sigma 7 accessible on a lower floor.
Additionally Melor is also receiving a āfleet orderā for the newly revealed Sigma 8 for an unnamed regional operator.
On the European mainland market, the company said a total of 49 confirmed orders had been placed from the Scandinavian and German-speaking DACH regions. This includes a “large order for a well-known Swedish operator”. In the summer of this year, Mellor announced that for sales in Germany and Austria, the Hamburg-based company Jebsen & Jessen Industrial Solutions is now in charge of sales and service of Mellor electric buses in both countries.
To accommodate driving across the street, Mellor is also providing left-hand drive Sigma 7 trainers to prospective customers in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. In the coming months, the company said it has an intensive demo program planned for customers in those countries.
