McLaren Launches High-End E-Bike Lineup, Starting at $7,950

McLaren, renowned for its sports cars and supercars, is venturing into the bicycle market with a full lineup designed to appeal to enthusiasts who share a passion for both. The new range includes two power levels, offering a hardtail and full suspension option, catering to a variety of preferences. However, prospective buyers should be prepared for a significant investment, as the entry-level price is set at $7,950.

Named the Sport and the Extreme, these models boast features that cater to most e-bike shoppers’ needs. Each bike comes equipped with a carbon fiber frame and custom handlebars that integrate a digital display. Additionally, the frame features integrated LED lighting, enhancing visibility in low-light conditions. McLaren dedicated over 1,000 hours to designing the frame, highlighting the meticulous craftsmanship behind these bikes.

Notably, these bikes are a fully in-house production by McLaren. The motor offers two power levels, with the base model, named 250 for both the Sport and Extreme, producing 121 Nm (89 lb-ft) of torque and 250 watts of power. It utilizes a 12-speed SRAM drivetrain, a 36-volt 15 AH battery, and Pirelli Scorpion Enduro tires, with RockShox shocks enhancing the riding experience.

The higher-tier models feature a 48-volt 14.5 AH battery, a 600-watt motor, and up to 161 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque, aptly named the 600. These bikes offer various power modes, including Off, Eco, Trail, Sport, and Race, capable of delivering up to 852 watts and reaching speeds of up to 20 mph. To put this into perspective, the average power output of a professional cyclist is slightly below 500 watts.

These impressive specifications make the 600 versions of the Sport and Extreme the most powerful street and trail-legal e-bikes ever produced. These models will be available in the USA.

The Sport 250 starts at $7,950, while its higher-end counterpart, the Sport 600, is priced at $8,950. The Extreme series commands even more attention, with the 250 starting at $10,950 and the 600 priced at $11,950. While these prices may seem steep to some, they are consistent with many high-end e-bikes currently on the market.
