While the customer’s sedans and SUVs segment is not specified, Magna’s performance specifications suggest that it is likely to be a compact or mid-size vehicle. The drive system is also cost-effective, making it a more affordable option. Additionally, the announcement indicates that there will be an all-wheel drive option available, as the drive system can be used for electric AWD applications. The production of the drives will begin in 2026 at Magna’s facilities in Kechnec (Slovakia) and Lannach (Austria).

Diba Ilunga, president of Magna Powertrain, stated, “The electrified powertrain technologies of the future are being developed today. We are embracing the challenge to innovate and bring to market scalable technology solutions that our customers require. This new business marks an important milestone in our electrification strategy as we continue to consistently pursue new innovations and solutions to drive the rapidly growing EV sector forward.
