UK-based commercial vehicle electrification firm Lunaz Applied Technologies has gone into administration, resulting in the loss of approximately 40 jobs. The company, which was established in 2021 as a spinoff of classic car electrification specialist Lunaz, failed to secure the necessary funding to commence production of its electric bin lorry, known as the Lunaz Upcycled Electric Vehicle.
Despite the closure, Lunaz intends to retain its intellectual property and plans to restart the programme and production once market demand increases. A spokesperson for the company stated, “The Lunaz Group is currently restructuring its business to rescope timelines for the start of production for commercial vehicle products. This means the business entity Lunaz Applied Technologies has stopped operations.”
The spokesperson further explained, “This decision rebalances business focus to passenger cars, which remain in production, with order books open for [Lunaz’s] five engineered EV platforms. This restructure will ensure demand for passenger vehicles can be met while ensuring commercial vehicles can be produced once market conditions drive demand.”
Lunaz has been actively involved in the electric mobility sector, having announced a partnership last year to electrify a fleet of refuse trucks with Biffa. Additionally, the company established a new headquarters in 2022 and electrified the Bentley S2 Continental early last year. Despite the setback, Lunaz remains committed to its vision of sustainable transportation and aims to resume its commercial vehicle production when the market conditions are favorable.
