Luminar Technologies, a leader in lidar sensors for autonomous vehicles, has expanded its workforce reduction efforts, cutting approximately 30% of its employees since early 2024.
This marks a significant increase from the previously announced 20% reduction as part of the companyâs broader restructuring plan.
The latest staff cuts are expected to result in an additional $4 million to $6 million in cash charges, primarily impacting Luminarâs financial results in the third and fourth quarters of 2024, the company disclosed in a recent filing.
Earlier in the year, Luminar outlined plans to reduce its global footprint by sub-leasing portions of its facilities while implementing a 20% workforce reduction.
The company had nearly 800 full-time employees as of December 2023, with operations spanning the U.S., Germany, Sweden, India, and China.
Luminarâs lidar sensors are essential for enabling fully autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems, offering vehicles a 3D understanding of the road. The expanded restructuring reflects Luminar’s ongoing effort to streamline operations and optimize resources in a competitive and evolving autonomous vehicle market.
