South Korean car manufacturer KIA released the EV6 GT and it is planned to be available by the end of this year. Kia follows its parent company, Hyundai, in releasing its newest electric vehicle which it claims isn’t just any electric car, it’s a monster.
With 576 HP, the Kia EV6 GT can go from 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds and reach a speed of 161 mph. In fact, according to independent tests by AMCI, the EV6 GT beats the Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder in acceleration.
The KIA EV6 GT comes with a dual motor e-AWD powertrain that drives all four wheels. The 77.4 kWh battery pack powers a 160kW front motor and a 270kW rear motor for a combined 576 HP and 546 pounds of torque. For comparison, the Ferrari Roma has about 561 pounds of torque.
The KIA EV6 GT features 15-inch and 14.2-inch front disc brakes with four-piston front calipers, rigid chassis and electrically controlled suspension for optimal performance. The EV6 GT sits on 21-inch wheels, while the exterior includes neon accents.
Inside, the Kia carries a sporty feel with race-like bucket seats and a neon green dashboard. Kia went all out with the EV6 GT. The Korean automaker includes different driving modes, including GT drive mode, my drive mode, and drift mode, in addition to the standard options (eco, normal, sport, and snow).
GT driving mode enhances the car’s performance by adjusting the motor, brakes, steering, suspension and traction to optimal settings. “The EV6 GT ushers in the next chapter in the Plan S electrification story for Kia, leveraging the EV6’s thrilling performance and easy ride beyond expectations,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP of Kia America.
Perhaps, most importantly, Kia’s new EV model includes 800V DC fast charging capability, which can charge 10 to 80% of the battery in under 18 minutes. “Moving towards a zero-emissions exhaust target has never been so much fun,” added the Steven Center.
