South Korean automaker KG Mobility, formerly known as SsangYong Motor, has revealed the details of its first production model under the new branding – the Torres EVX electric SUV. The vehicle is fitted with a front-mounted electric motor, which produces 201 horsepower (150 kW / 204 PS), and is powered by a 73.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack sourced from BYD. According to the company, the SUV has an estimated range of 500 km (311 miles) according to WLTP estimates, or over 420 km (261 miles) measured under Korea’s circle.
Compared to the ICE-powered Torres, which makes 168 hp (125 kW / 170 PS) from a 1.5 T-GDI engine, the electric Torres EVX is more powerful. However, the petrol-powered model is the only one offering an all-wheel-drive option. The KG Mobility Torres EVX measures 4,715 mm (185.6 inches) long, 1,890 mm (74.4 inches) wide, and 1,725 mm (67.9 inches) tall, making it slightly larger than the Nissan Rogue / X-Trail.
Visually, the Torres EVX features a redesigned front with slimmer LED headlights, an illuminated grille, and different bumper intakes. The profile is carried over with a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels, while the rear end features unique LED graphics for the taillights.
Inside, the digital cockpit includes dual 12.3-inch screens mounted in a single panel, faux leather upholstery, wood accents on the dashboard, and a floating center console. The SUV has room for five people and a massive 839 lt (29.6 cubic feet) boot which is bigger than the ICE-powered model’s 703 lt (24.8 cubic feet), with an optional panoramic sunroof also available.
The Torres EVX is offered in two trim variants – the E5 and the E7 – both of which share the same powertrain and battery. The only difference between the two is the equipment and the pricing. The E5 starts from ₩49,500,000 ($37,918) while the E7 is priced at ₩52,000,000 ($39,833), with subsidies for electric models potentially lowering the price to as low as ₩30,000,000 ($22,978).
KG Mobility plans to launch the Torres EVX in Europe and Australia in the second half of the year, with more EVs set to join the KG Mobility lineup in the coming years, as previewed by the O100 pickup, KR10 mid-size SUV, and F100 SUV concepts.
