KG Mobility, the South Korean carmaker formerly known as SsangYong, has revealed the technical specifications of its new all-electric crossover, the Torres EVX. The vehicle will be available for sale in the Korean market later this year. The EVX is larger than the Korando e-Motion, measuring 185.6 inches (4,715 millimeters) in length, 74.4 inches (1,890 mm) in width, and 67.9 inches (1,725 mm) in height, and is equipped with a BYD-sourced battery pack that can store up to 73.4 kilowatt-hours of energy.
The electric motor installed at the front of the vehicle can generate 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower), while the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery can keep the KG Mobility Torres EVX moving for up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) on a full charge, in the estimated WLTP cycle.
The South Korean government conducted tests that suggest a range of around 260 miles (420 km). In addition to the electric version, KG Mobility also offers an internal combustion version of the Torres, powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 168 hp.
The KG Mobility Torres EVX will be available in two trim levels when it is released: the E5 and the E7. The E5 trim level includes a heat pump, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, electric mirrors, a roof rack, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
Inside, the compact electric crossover features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, electric seats, dual-zone climate control, and an electrically-operated tailgate. The E7 trim level adds leather upholstery, keyless entry, rear heated seats, and extra plastic exterior components intended to give the vehicle a more rugged look. The battery and electric motor are identical for both variants.
Safety features on the KG Mobility Torres EVX include lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera as standard.
The KG Mobility Torres EVX can be pre-ordered in Korea, with the E5 starting from around ₩50 million (approximately $38,000), while the E7 has an MSRP of ₩52 million (about $39,900). KG Mobility plans to launch the EVX in Europe in the second half of the year, where it will compete with the Skoda Enyaq iV, before expanding to Australia.
The KG Mobility Torres EVX is part of a series of brand-new EVs that the company is developing, as seen in the O100 pickup, KR10 mid-size UV, and F100 SUV concepts, which will be introduced as series production models in the coming years.
KG Mobility was previously known as SsangYong, a company that was renowned for its off-road expertise in Korea. However, SsangYong went bankrupt in 2022 and was acquired by KG Group, which renamed the company to KG Mobility in March 2023.
