Juna, the newly established joint venture between Scania and Sennder, is set to expand its fleet by adding 30 heavy-duty electric trucks, bringing its total to around 50 electric vehicles. Scania is scheduled to deliver the new trucks in the first half of 2025, specifically designed for regional transport and capable of carrying up to 46 tonnes.
Currently renting electric trucks in four major European markets, including Germany, Juna aims to facilitate the transition to electric logistics through its pay-per-use model. This approach allows logistics companies to avoid high acquisition costs and eliminates residual value risk, as Juna assumes that responsibility while providing access to Scania’s advanced electric trucks.
Juna CEO Matteo Oberto highlighted the significance of this fleet expansion, stating that it represents a major step towards revolutionizing road logistics. He noted that the company’s model has already demonstrated its effectiveness in meeting the performance and reliability standards required by freight forwarders. This expansion positions Juna to roll out its innovative solutions across more European markets.
Christian Levin, President and CEO of Scania, emphasized the partnership’s commitment to sustainability in transport, calling the collaboration a testament to their shared vision for a greener future.
Juna was formed about a year ago with the goal of driving the large-scale introduction of electric trucks in Europe. Although the company initially aimed to have 100 electric trucks available by the end of 2024, it appears to be falling short of that target. Nonetheless, Juna remains ambitious, setting a goal of offering 5,000 electric trucks by 2030, a target they believe is achievable.
