John Deere Unveils New Electric Excavator at CES 2023

John Deere has unveiled its new electric excavator at the CES 2023 technology trade show in Las Vegas, marking the company’s entry into the electric heavy machinery market.

“Everything we do at John Deere is focused on real purpose and real impact,” said Jahmy Hindman, CTO at John Deere. “This means we’re developing technology that enables our customers to provide the food, fuel, fiber and infrastructure that our growing global population needs.”

During its presentation at CES 2023, John Deere primarily focused on its agricultural innovations, including the release of its ExactShot technology, which uses robotics to apply fertilizer. However, the company also unveiled its new electric excavator, powered by a Kreisel battery, which was designed to reduce operating costs, noise, and emissions.

While the company did not release any information on the electric excavator’s specifications, it is worth noting that several other OEMs, such as Volvo, Komatsu, Bobcat, Kato, Hyundai, and JCB, have also released electric excavator technology in recent years.

In June, Deere and Wacker Neuson announced that they would be collaborating on equipment production, with Wacker Neuson producing mini and compact excavators under 5 metric tons for Deere, including electric models that will be distributed under the Deere brand through its global dealer network.

Wacker Neuson is designing and manufacturing electric excavators for John Deere at its facilities in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and Linz, Austria, with a focus on meeting the needs of the North American market. The companies have a phased plan for introducing the models, and Wacker Neuson will continue to distribute all of its models in the same product range under its own brand through its own distribution network.
