Hyundai is gearing up to unveil its latest electric three-row SUV, the IONIQ 7, at the Busan Motor Show in June, adding to its lineup of electric vehicles based on the E-GMP platform.
Despite not qualifying for the $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs except through leasing, Hyundai has emerged as the fourth best-selling EV brand in the US, capturing 4.5% of the market last year, according to registration data from S&P Global. This success comes as rivals like Ford and GM are slowing electric car production.

The Korean automaker is set to open its first EV and battery megaplant in Georgia this year, with Hyundai Motor America CEO Jose Munoz expressing confidence that vehicles produced there will qualify for the EV tax credit.
The IONIQ 7, which Hyundai describes as offering “a whole new way of life,” was first showcased as the Seven concept at the 2021 Automobility LA. The concept is designed to provide a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience, with an interior that feels “just like you would in your living room.”
The IONIQ 7 is expected to share components with Kia’s three-row EV9 electric SUV and feature 8 inches of ground clearance. It will likely offer 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh battery options, with 350 kW charging capabilities allowing for 25-minute fast charging from 10% to 80%.

Production of the IONIQ 7 is slated to begin at Hyundai’s Asan Plant in Korea in July 2024, with the new Georgia facility expected to commence production next year.
The IONIQ 7’s debut at the Busan Motor Show follows several sightings of the vehicle during testing, where it was seen parked next to the Kia EV9, indicating similar body design, suspension, and wheels.
