Hyundai Motor Group is gearing up for a significant milestone as it prepares to commence production of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at its new Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Bryan County, Georgia, by 2025. The decision marks a pivotal moment for Hyundai’s presence in North America, with the highly acclaimed all-electric SUV poised to lead the charge.
Despite the Ioniq 5 not yet being unveiled in North America, it has already garnered widespread acclaim globally. In March, Parents magazine recognized the Ioniq 5 as the Best Electric 5-Passenger SUV for Families in its 2024 Best Family Cars Awards, underscoring its appeal and suitability for the market.
“This is a very exciting time for HMGMA. We are in the final phase of construction and are getting ready for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 to roll off the line. Itâs the ideal vehicle for us to start production with,” said Oscar Kwon, President and CEO of HMGMA, highlighting the significance of the Ioniq 5 in Hyundai’s North American journey.
HMGMA has already commenced training and preparations for the start of production in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the Georgia-based plant set to manufacture all trim lines of the Ioniq 5, except for the Ioniq 5 N, exclusively for the U.S. market.

Beyond the Ioniq 5, Hyundai Motor Group plans to produce Kia and Genesis vehicles at the HMGMA plant. Initially intended solely for electric vehicle production, Hyundai’s decision to also manufacture hybrid vehicles at the plant reflects efforts to balance production in response to evolving market demands.
