Hyundai has revealed the Inster Cross, a crossover version of its electric city car, showcasing a more adventurous design. Set to enter production later this year, the Inster Cross was introduced at the Paris Motor Show as an exciting addition to Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup.
The base model, the Hyundai Inster, which debuted in June, is derived from the Casper combustion engine variant available in Korea. It offers two battery options: a 42 kWh battery paired with a 71 kW electric motor or a 49 kWh battery with an 85 kW motor. The Inster boasts a provisional range of up to 355 kilometers. However, the regular Inster is not yet available for order, and pricing details remain undisclosed.
While Hyundai has not provided extensive details on the Inster Cross, it is anticipated that its specifications will closely mirror those of the standard Inster, as the Cross is categorized as an “equipment line” rather than a completely distinct model. Production of the Inster Cross is expected to commence in Korea by the end of the year.
The design of the Inster Cross features bold off-road aesthetics, highlighted in promotional images set against a mountainous backdrop. The vehicle sports wide, rectangular front and rear bumpers to emphasize its adventurous character, along with embossed black cladding for added flair. Notably, the Inster Cross is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels featuring a unique design, while standard roof rails enhance its rugged appearance. However, Hyundai has not confirmed the vehicle’s off-road capabilities, leaving some uncertainty about its performance in such environments.
In terms of safety, the Inster Cross is equipped with a suite of advanced features, including Motorway Assist 1.5, which helps maintain lane discipline and adjusts speed according to the current speed limit. Additional safety functionalities include navigation-based adaptive cruise control, an autonomous emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and a turning function to enhance overall safety and convenience during driving.
As Hyundai continues to expand its electric vehicle offerings, the Inster Cross aims to attract consumers seeking a stylish and functional electric crossover option. Further details regarding pricing and sales launch are expected as production approaches.
