Hyundai unveils gesture-controlled door handle using SomaCap Sensors

Hyundai is working with technology company SomaCap to create a new technology that allows car owners to open doorknobs by simply waving their hands. The movement required is not just waving your hands.

The car owner can later determine a special movement that is indeed a special identity so that the car door opens. The sensor made by SomaCap will later be installed on the door handles of every Hyundai car.

The sensor will be able to detect the presence of the car owner within a certain distance. The sensor will then open the door automatically if the presence of the car owner is detected and has made a special move.

So car owners don’t have to bother holding the car door handle anymore. They just get in quickly with no hassle.

The sensor made by SomaCap is indeed very unique. The sensor, which is made of carbon nanotube paper, is equipped with advanced technology that can improve the way humans interact with vehicles in the future.

“It’s great to see the potential of this incredible breakthrough technology come to life in demonstrations like this, and we look forward to future collaboration opportunities with Hyundai,” said SomaCap CEO Barbara Barclay.

Carbuzz said that this technology is indeed unique and could be underestimated. Because opening the car door is a common thing.

It’s just that this technology can actually be useful, especially in the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic. You may find it comforting not having to hold your car doorknob when parked in public for fear of someone else grabbing it.

In addition, in the future the cars will appear in a futuristic form. Predicted car door handles will also appear in a more modern form. Of course it would be very easy if opening the car door could be done only with a special movement.

Currently, several car manufacturers have already applied similar technology to open the trunk door. It’s just that the movements they do are still quite complicated, namely kicking at the bottom of the trunk of the car. Through the SomaCap sensor, the movements are much simpler and less troublesome.
