Hyundai is preparing to unveil its first electric three-row SUV, the Ioniq 9, following a year after Kia launched its EV9. The company released two teaser sketches ahead of the vehicle’s reveal at next week’s Los Angeles auto show, showcasing the Ioniq 9ās sleek exterior design and “lounge-like” interior.
The Ioniq 9 takes inspiration from Hyundai’s 2021 Seven concept and appears to retain much of the original design’s flow. The new addition to Hyundaiās lineup will offer an electric alternative to the popular gasoline-powered Palisade, expanding the brandās offerings in the growing electric SUV market.
The Ioniq 9 will be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the same architecture used by the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6 models, as well as Kia’s EV6 and EV9. As a result, the Ioniq 9 is expected to share many of the same specifications with the Kia EV9, including available rear- or all-wheel-drive configurations. Range estimates for the Ioniq 9 will likely be in a similar range as the EV9, which offers up to 304 miles in extended-range versions. Power output is expected to vary, with the EV9 offering between 201 and 379 horsepower depending on configuration.
Pricing for the Ioniq 9 is expected to start around $50,000, with the vehicle anticipated to arrive in U.S. showrooms in 2025. Further details, including full specifications and features, will be revealed closer to the model’s official launch.
