Hyundai announced sales of the Ioniq 5 model reached 1,306 units in the US in September, which Hyundai claims is its lowest sales for the model since its launch earlier this year.
Overall, sales of the Ioniq 5 represented about 2.2 percent of Hyundai’s total volume, which is also the lowest level since the model’s launch.
Hyundai did not reveal the reason why sales of the Ioniq 5 model experienced a sharp decline in September 2022.
Hyundai Motor America also announced a $1,500 price increase for the 2023 version of the Ioniq 5, which could impact demand.
To date, sales of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the US have exceeded 18,000 units and the South Korean company says it is still on track with sales of the model.
Unfortunately, the statistics above do not include the sales results of other all-electric or plug-in hybrid models such as the Kona Electric, Ioniq Electric, Ioniq Plug-In, Santa Fe PHEV and Tucson PHEV, as they are calculated together with conventional or non-rechargeable hybrids.
As for the car model with hydrogen fuel cell technology, the Hyundai Nexo, 27 units were sold last September.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the first model to be based on the Hyundai Motor Group E-GMP platform, which is also used by the Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60.
Next year, the company will also launch the Ioniq 6, which recently hit a presale record of 37,446 units in South Korea.
