Hyundai is accelerating towards an electrified future, leaving behind the roar of internal combustion engines in favor of the silent speed of electric motors. The latest casualty of this electric revolution is the i30 N and i20 N, two beloved models that have been discontinued in Europe to make way for Hyundai’s electric ambitions.
The all-electric Ioniq 5 N has quickly become the star of Hyundai’s lineup, winning over testers and enthusiasts alike with its thrilling performance. In Europe, it now stands alone as the sole full N car, carrying the torch for Hyundai’s high-performance division.

The i30 N, introduced in 2017, made a lasting impression with its 247 hp and 276 hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engines. It was a favorite among European hot hatch fans, helping to establish both the N brand and Hyundai’s credibility in the segment. Its smaller sibling, the i20 N, entered the scene in 2021, offering a spirited 201 hp blown 1.6 engine and competing with the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST.
“Production of the ICE N models has ceased for the European market starting from February, in line with our commitment to offering a zero-tailpipe-emission lineup to our customers by 2035 and to operating 100 per cent carbon neutrally by 2045,” Hyundai stated.
Looking ahead, Hyundai is focusing on developing high-performance electric vehicles under the N brand in Europe. This shift aligns with the broader industry trend towards electric mobility and reflects Hyundai’s commitment to innovation.
While the i30 N and i20 N will be missed in Europe, Hyundai’s N activities in North America remain unaffected. The Kona N may have been discontinued in 2023, but the Elantra N sedan and the eagerly anticipated Ioniq 5 N are set to keep the excitement alive for enthusiasts across the pond.
