Hyundai has once again proven its mettle in the electric vehicle market by winning multiple awards at the 2023 New York Auto Show. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 was named the World Design Car, World Electric Vehicle, and eventually the 2023 World Car of the Year. Meanwhile, the Kia EV6 GT received the title of 2023 World Performance Car.

Competing against the BMW iX1/X1 duo and the Kia Niro, the Ioniq 6’s design stood out from the crowd, beating Lucid Air and Range Rover to take home the World Design award. The Ioniq 6 also won the World Electric Vehicle award, beating out the Lucid Air and BMW i7.

Notably, SangYup Lee, the head of design at Hyundai and Genesis, was awarded the World Car of the Year 2023 Person of the Year title. It was a momentous occasion for the automaker, with the Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6 GT winning against 21 vehicles from some of the biggest automakers in the world.

In addition to the Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6 GT, Hyundai is also set to release its third electric car this year – the Ioniq 7. Sharing its platform with the Kia EV9, the Ioniq 7 promises to have a unique design, as it will not resemble the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, or Kia EV9.

With the competition heating up in the electric vehicle market, next year will be an exciting year to watch, with the Polestar 3, Audi Q8 e-tron, and new Kia EV9 set to compete. However, based on Hyundai’s success with the Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6 GT, it’s clear that the automaker is up for the challenge.
