The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N made a spectacular performance at this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting new records in the Electric Modified and Production SUV/Crossover categories. The automaker also announced its intention to launch more special EV models and participate in high-profile motorsport events.

Hyundai entered the iconic 12.42-mile (20 km) climb with two Ioniq 5 N TA Spec (Time Attack) models and one production-spec Ioniq 5 N. The specially prepared TA Spec models proved significantly faster than their road-legal counterpart, with the TA Spec driven by WRC driver Dani Sordo clocking 9:30.852, setting a new record in the Electric Modified class. Randy Pobst, driving the second TA Spec model, finished 25 seconds behind, clocking in at 9:55.551.

The unmodified production Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, piloted by rookie driver Ron Zaras, achieved a time of 10:49.267, making it the fastest electric production SUV/crossover at Pikes Peak.

Despite an injury sustained during practice, stunt driver Paul Dallenbach managed a certified time of 10:33.86 in pre-race testing with a second stock Hyundai Ioniq N, setting high expectations for the event. The overall record for production SUVs still belongs to the Lamborghini Urus Performante, with a time of 10:32.064 set in 2022.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec features enhancements such as increased power output, new shocks, slick tires, and motorsport-derived brakes, in addition to its wild aero package.
