Hyundai has officially announced the upcoming debut of its first three-row electric SUV in the United States, slated to make its inaugural appearance later this year. This eagerly anticipated model launch will coincide with an updated version of the popular Ioniq 5, marking significant additions to Hyundai’s 2025 lineup.
As the demand for electric vehicles continues to surge, Hyundai is positioning itself strategically in the US market, where EV sales have seen a notable 15% increase in the second quarter alone. Randy Parker, Hyundai’s US CEO, expressed confidence in the company’s performance, describing the current market conditions as a “sweet spot” for Hyundai.
The Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 have recently achieved record-breaking sales figures in Q2, underscoring Hyundai’s ambition to capture a larger share of the electric vehicle market. Despite intensifying competition, Parker remains optimistic about Hyundai’s prospects for the latter half of 2024.
Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to introduce several key models to sustain its momentum. Among these, the eagerly awaited Ioniq three-row electric SUV is set to be unveiled later this year, alongside the refreshed Ioniq 5 for 2025.
Hyundai’s announcement marks the first official confirmation of the release date for its larger electric SUV, which has been anticipated since the introduction of the “SEVEN” concept in 2021, speculated to potentially be branded as the Ioniq 9.
Reports indicate that Hyundai’s new three-row electric SUV, spotted testing in California, features a sleek design distinct from Kia’s EV9, and will be based on the E-GMP platform. Promising over 300 miles of range, rapid charging in under 20 minutes, and advanced software integration, the new model aligns with Hyundai’s commitment to innovative electric vehicle technology.
In addition to the upcoming SUV debut, Hyundai is gearing up to unveil an updated Ioniq 5 later this summer, building on the success of its recent refresh in the Korean market. With enhancements including a larger battery and faster charging capabilities, the 2025 Ioniq 5 is poised to lead production at Hyundai’s new $7.6 billion EV manufacturing facility in Georgia, eligible for the $7,500 tax credit under Hyundai’s global strategy, as confirmed by Jose Munoz, Hyundai’s global chief operating officer.
