UK-based hydrogen truck developer HVS has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Spanish company Kopala International, headquartered in Barcelona, to supply hydrogen-powered trucks and assist the customer in its emissions reduction efforts. This agreement marks HVS’s first contract for left-hand drive vehicles.
Under the terms of the MoU, Kopala International plans to deploy HVS’s hydrogen-powered heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) on actual delivery routes. The partnership will leverage HVS’s Transition to Zero Programme, which will provide support in areas including technology evaluation, hydrogen fueling infrastructure, financial options, safety standards, and government incentives.
The Spanish government has identified hydrogen adoption in the heavy goods sector as a strategic priority. According to Spain’s draft national energy and climate plan for 2030, the country aims to achieve 11 gigawatts of electrolyzer capacity for green hydrogen production, which is the highest target in Europe.
“Kopala International’s commitment to this programme is a testament to the growing appetite for hydrogen solutions in European logistics, and we’re proud to be leading this effort with our cutting-edge FCEV technology,” said Phil Henrik, Chief Commercial Officer at HVS.
“Partnering with HVS enables us to position ourselves as early adopters of hydrogen-powered logistics, and we are eager to take part in their Transition to Zero Programme,” added Jeffrey Dost, CEO of Kopala International.
