GreenPower Motor Company has confirmed an order for 50 all-electric school buses, funded under the EPA Clean School Bus Program, which provides $18.5 million to replace traditional diesel buses with zero-emission models in West Virginia.

This fleet, featuring GreenPower’s Type D BEAST, Mega BEAST, and Type A Nano BEAST models, will be utilized by seven county school districts to advance cleaner transportation solutions for students.

In collaboration with its local dealer Highland Electric Fleet, GreenPower worked with the participating school districts to assess transportation needs, guide the grant application process, and assist in setting up the required charging infrastructure. Monongalia County, classified as a non-priority area for EPA funding, contributed an additional $550,000, bringing the total order from 47 to 50 buses. Brendan Riley, President of GreenPower, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Clean School Bus Program’s goals under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, promoting sustainable school transport. Steve Ellis, GreenPower’s Vice President of Sales, noted that the schools collaborated closely in planning and executing the application process to ensure smooth implementation.

GreenPower’s BEAST and Nano BEAST models will be allocated to counties based on each district’s specific requirements, with certain models designed for longer ranges and accessibility options, including wheelchair lifts. Furthermore, GreenPower’s electric school buses are eligible for additional rebate funding under both the federal Clean School Bus Program and California’s ZESBI program, with applications open through early 2025.

Engineered with a high-strength steel truss chassis, an integrated aluminum body, and DC fast-charging capability, the BEAST models offer durable and efficient options for school transport. The Nano BEAST Access model further enhances inclusivity by incorporating wheelchair accessibility, making this fleet a significant step toward sustainable, accessible, and safe transportation across West Virginia school districts.
