General Motors (GM) has recently announced a recall affecting a limited number of vehicles, including a single 2022 GMC Hummer EV and four 2023 Cadillac Lyriq models. The recall has been initiated to address potential issues with the high-voltage batteries installed in these vehicles.

The reason behind the recall stems from concerns regarding certain connections within the battery packs of the affected vehicles. During the manufacturing process, it has been discovered that these connections may be improperly positioned or inadequately welded. This defect poses a risk of reduced or complete power loss, thereby increasing the likelihood of accidents in specific circumstances.

To mitigate any potential dangers, GM has outlined several indicators that drivers can look out for to determine if their vehicles are affected. The affected vehicles may exhibit warning signs such as the illumination of the battery warning light or the display of error messages, including “Service High Voltage System,” “Charging Disabled,” or “Vehicle Will Not Restart.”

Affected owners will be promptly notified by General Motors, enabling them to address the issue promptly. GM has assured that the necessary repairs will be conducted free of charge by trained personnel at authorized GMC or Cadillac dealerships. The resolution for the problem involves the replacement of the battery pack, ensuring the safety and functionality of the vehicles.

Fortunately for General Motors, the recall impacts only a small number of units. This limited scope helps to minimize the financial impact and potential consequences associated with the recall. It is worth noting that both the GMC Hummer EV and the Cadillac Lyriq models are built on the GM Ultium platform, and their availability has already been constrained by battery supply issues, leading to substantial waiting lists.

General Motors remains committed to addressing any potential safety concerns promptly and efficiently, maintaining its dedication to providing high-quality vehicles to customers. The company encourages affected owners to contact their local GMC or Cadillac dealerships for further information and to schedule the necessary repairs to ensure their vehicles are operating safely and reliably.
