Frito-Lay, the popular food company owned by PepsiCo, has recently made a significant commitment towards achieving a more sustainable future. The company announced that it will be adding 700 electric delivery vans to its fleet in the United States by the end of 2023. Last year, Frito-Lay had already introduced 41 Ford E-Transits in Texas as part of its transition to cleaner energy.
Moreover, the company has also placed an order for 100 all-electric heavy-duty trucks from Tesla, becoming the launch customer for the Swedish service provider Einride in Great Britain. Frito-Lay is now focused on making its entire supply chain more sustainable and circular.
Laura Maxwell, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at PepsiCo Foods North America, explained that “the introduction of electric vehicles throughout our owned fleet and that of our partners is in direct support of our commitment to building a circular and inclusive value chain.” She added that the company has already reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 91% from direct fleet operations at its Modesto, California, plant and is looking to scale this success nationwide as it adds more electric vehicles to its fleet.
But Frito-Lay’s sustainability efforts don’t stop at electric vehicles. The company is deeply committed to regenerative agriculture processes, aiming to improve soil conditions, reduce carbon emissions, enhance watershed health and diversity, and strengthen farmer livelihoods. Additionally, Frito-Lay has achieved 100% renewable electricity in all of its US plants, offices, and distribution centers. It also recycles 75% of process water at its manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Frito-Lay’s actions towards sustainability demonstrate the company’s determination to build a better future for everyone. By implementing sustainable practices throughout its supply chain, the company is contributing to a more sustainable food system while also reducing its environmental footprint.
