The Fraunhofer Research Centre for Battery Cell Production FFB and engineering service provider PEM Motion have joined forces to drive technological advancements in battery cell production through collaborative research and development efforts.
The agreement aims to facilitate technology transfer between academia and industry, fostering innovation and enhancing the competitiveness of the battery industry, particularly in Germany and Europe. By pooling their expertise, the partners seek to tackle the challenges associated with planning and establishing battery factories in Europe.
PEM Motion will contribute consulting and engineering services in electromobility, covering everything from product design to business development. Christoph Deutskens, Managing Director of PEM Motion, expressed the significance of the partnership, stating, âBy cooperating with Fraunhofer FFB, we not only have a professional partner to offer our customers unique services in many areas of battery cell production, but also an innovation partner to further develop the state of the art in this field.â
Florian Degen, Head of Strategy and Corporate Development at Fraunhofer FFB, highlighted the importance of industrializing battery cell production to meet market demand cost-effectively and sustainably. âThrough cooperations such as with PEM Motion, we can make innovative technologies and production know-how available to an even broader user market and thus put Europe in the fast lane,â Degen commented.
Fraunhofer FFB recently completed the first phase of construction in MĂŒnster, known as the âFFB PreFab,â at the end of April. This facility provides approximately 6,800 square meters of research space. The upcoming FFB Fab will offer an additional 20,000 square meters of production and research space, enabling industry-oriented research and development in the gigawatt range with large-scale industrial plant technology.
