The Goodwood Festival of Speed has witnessed a remarkable surprise as Ford unveiled its latest creation, the Mustang Mach-E Rally. This new model signifies a significant milestone for the iconic Mustang nameplate, as it enters the world of rallying for the first time in nearly sixty years.
Breaking new ground and venturing where no Mustang has gone before, the Mustang Mach-E Rally represents Ford’s inaugural foray into rally-inspired electric SUVs. While specific details about the vehicle remain undisclosed, Ford has tantalized enthusiasts with a series of captivating photos. The images showcase the EV adorned in a striking custom full body wrap, complete with prominent “Mach-E Rally” decals gracing its sides.
A closer examination of the visuals reveals intriguing features that set the Mustang Mach-E Rally apart. Notably, the rally-style roof spoiler proudly displays a white Mustang logo on each side, while the custom faux grille integrates two additional round lights. The front fascia also boasts a red tow hook, and the eye-catching white rally-style wheels are equipped with BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A tires for superior off-road capabilities. Rounding out the design are the mud guards, adding both functionality and flair.
Interestingly, the front and rear bumpers bear a striking resemblance to those found on the Mustang Mach-E GT. Inside the Mach-E Rally, the resemblance continues, with the cabin closely mirroring the Mach-E GT’s design. However, notable differentiators include cream accents on the front seat backs, steering wheel, and dashboard, along with carbon fiber-like trim adorning the lower part of the dash.
While Ford has not divulged specific powertrain specifications, if the Mach-E Rally’s styling similarities with the Mach-E GT extend to its performance, we can expect a dual-motor powertrain boasting 480 horsepower (358 kilowatts) and an impressive 600 pound-feet (813 Newton-meters) of torque. In the Mach-E GT, this power translates to a swift 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.8 seconds.
To the delight of spectators, the rally-inspired electric SUV will make its debut by conquering the Goodwood hill climb, with none other than former World Rally champion and current M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally driver, Ott TƤnak, at the helm.
This exciting opportunity will allow enthusiasts and onlookers to witness the Mustang Mach-E Rally in action, albeit limited to the confines of the tarmac.
“Mustang Mach-E embraced the freedom and excitement of the Mustang lineage while remaining emission-free. Now, with the Mustang Mach-E Rally, we are empowering our customers to explore uncharted territory beyond traditional asphalt paths,” said Darren Palmer, Vice President of Electric Vehicle Programs at Ford Model E.
Ford has announced that the Mustang Mach-E Rally will be available for order starting this autumn, initially in the United States and Europe. This marks a significant step forward in Ford’s commitment to electrification and its dedication to expanding the horizons of the iconic Mustang brand.
