Ford has announced the launch of its all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup in Europe, starting with a limited number of launch edition units available for pre-order in Norway. The move is in response to what Ford claims is “overwhelming public demand” for the vehicle in the country, where customers have reportedly been “banging on the door” to get their hands on the highly-anticipated EV. While the carmaker has not disclosed the exact number of launch edition vehicles available in Norway, it has stated that the EV will be exclusively offered in the Super Crew Cab body style and Antimatter Blue metallic body colour.

The F-150 Lightning is equipped with a 98 kW battery pack and a four-wheel drive powertrain generating 458 PS and 1,050 Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in less than five seconds. The EV can also offload up to 2.3 kW to power tools, electronics, and appliances at work sites or while camping off-grid via built-in electrical sockets. While the WLTP range for Europe has not yet been announced, the F-150 Lightning has an EPA range of 240 miles (386 kilometres) in the US, with deliveries set to start next year.
The launch of the F-150 Lightning in Norway comes as the country aims to completely electrify cars and light commercial vehicles by 2025. Ford’s decision to launch the EV in the country first suggests that it anticipates high demand for the vehicle, given Norway’s reputation as a leader in the EV market. However, the carmaker has not confirmed when the F-150 Lightning will be launched in other European countries.

The F-150 Lightning is already in high demand in the US, prompting Ford to ramp up production at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan. The carmaker has also announced plans to develop electric variants for its smaller trucks, the Maverick and Ranger, which will be made available in Europe. While the F-150 Lightning’s starting price in the US is around $78,000, it will cost significantly more in Norway, starting at $111,500.
