North American EV charging company FLO has announced the start of production for its FLO Ultra charger at a facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This milestone signifies the company’s commitment to deploying fast-charging EV infrastructure across the United States and Canada.
The decision to open the Auburn facility was announced in 2022, marking a significant expansion as the company had previously manufactured only in Canada. This week’s ramp-up also includes upgrades to comply with the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program’s (NEVI) standards and the Buy America Act.
The FLO Ultra charger boasts a new motorized cable management system called EZLift, designed to automatically lift cables off the ground and provide extended reach. According to FLO, this system makes the cables feel lighter and easier to maneuver for users.
The new station is capable of charging most EVs to 80% in just 15 minutes, offering up to 320 kW in a dual-port power configuration.
Martine St-Onge, Chief Manufacturing Operations Officer at FLO, expressed excitement about the FLO Ultra charger, stating, “The FLO Ultra charger is set to redefine what drivers expect from public charging stations with powerful charging and versatile design.” St-Onge added, “As we ramp up production, we look forward to making it more accessible to own and drive EVs by bringing our FLO Ultra charger to more locations across North America.”
Founded as AddEnergie in Québec, Canada, in 2009, the company became an official supplier to the province’s ElectricCircuit network in 2012. FLO now boasts over 1.5 million charging sessions at over 100,000 fast and level 2 EV charging stations every month, including chargers at public, commercial, and residential locations.
In 2022, FLO secured a multi-year deal with General Motors to supply AC and DC fast chargers for installation at the carmaker’s US premises, allowing staff to charge their vehicles at work.
The Auburn Hills factory represents FLO’s third manufacturing facility, in addition to two plants at its headquarters in Shawinigan, Québec.
