Fastned has announced plans to expand its network in Spain by constructing two new fast-charging hubs in collaboration with motorway operator Autopistas. The agreement includes the installation of 16 charging stations, each with a capacity of up to 400 kW, at the Garraf Nord and Garraf Süd service stations in Barcelona province.
The new charging stations will be located along the C-32 motorway, an important route along Catalonia’s coast, specifically in the municipalities of Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cubelles, southwest of Barcelona. These locations are already marked as ‘Under construction’ on Fastned’s map.
Fastned first announced its expansion into Spain in January 2024, revealing plans for a fast-charging site near Madrid. According to the current map, this site is neither under construction nor operational yet. Instead, nine locations are marked as ‘planned,’ with six situated around Madrid. Four of these appear to be located at motorway service areas, with two sites positioned on both sides of the motorway. Two more planned sites are in the northeast around Barcelona, and another is in the Murcia area in the south.
Despite broader ambitions in Spain, only the two locations near Barcelona have been confirmed so far. “Our goal is to build stations that offer drivers reliable fast charging services, transforming the electric vehicle driving experience,” said Inma Cima, Fastned Country Manager in Spain. “We are therefore very pleased with the agreement we have signed with Abertis, which in addition to this project in El Garraf encompasses a wider collaboration with more future projects.”
This expansion aligns with Fastned’s strategy to enhance the electric vehicle infrastructure in Spain, providing EV drivers with more convenient and reliable charging options.
