In a strategic move set to come into effect on August 17, 2023, Electrify America, a prominent player in the North American electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape, has announced a significant shift in its pricing strategy. The network, known for its expansive DC fast-charger network across 46 states, is poised to transition from a uniform nationwide pricing model to a station-specific pricing approach. This development aims to tailor the charging experience to individual charging stations and marks a step towards further enhancing customer convenience and engagement.

As part of its commitment to accommodating the evolving needs of EV owners, Electrify America has been continuously expanding its presence in the United States and beyond. Notably, the network has established itself as a key player by offering substantial discounts to new EV customers of specific automobile brands and extending these benefits to participants in the gig economy, such as Lyft drivers.

While periodic discounts have been a staple of Electrify America’s offerings, the network has also acknowledged the necessity of adjusting charging fees to reflect market realities. Earlier this year, in February, the network revealed its intention to implement price increases starting from March.

Under the upcoming station-specific pricing structure, the focus will shift from a uniform energy or time-based pricing model to charging rates that are unique to each charging station. To facilitate this change, Electrify America’s mobile app will serve as a valuable resource, providing users with real-time pricing information for a given charger. To ensure transparency and compliance, the Electrify America Terms of Use will be revised to align with the new pricing framework.

To maximise the benefits of the updated pricing structure, Electrify America encourages its customers to consider upgrading to a Pass+ membership. This subscription offers members the advantage of saving up to 25% on charging costs. Currently priced at $4 per month, the Pass+ membership represents an opportunity for EV owners to reap substantial cost savings while enjoying the convenience and efficiency of the evolving charging infrastructure.

Electrify America expressed gratitude towards its loyal customer base for contributing to the success of the e-mobility movement. The network reiterated its commitment to providing support and assistance to customers during this transition and beyond.

As the EV landscape continues to evolve, Electrify America’s adaptive pricing strategy stands as a testament to the network’s dedication to providing a seamless and customer-centric charging experience. As August 17 approaches, EV enthusiasts and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the implementation of the new station-specific pricing model and the potential benefits it will bring to the rapidly expanding community of electric vehicle users.
