Electrify America and BMW of North America have once again joined forces to offer a compelling incentive to first-time BMW i5 owners. As part of their partnership, BMW i5 owners will receive two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions, enhancing the convenience and accessibility of electric vehicle (EV) ownership.
To activate this exclusive charging benefit, BMW i5 owners will have a two-year window, starting from the date of purchase, to enroll through the My BMW app. Through this intuitive application, owners can easily locate nearby charging stations, check charger availability, and navigate to the charging points using in-vehicle navigation or the app itself. Electrify America’s fast-charging network, equipped with 150kW and 350kW chargers, ensures that BMW i5 owners can confidently charge their vehicles at some of the highest charging speeds currently available.
Robert Barrosa, Vice President of Technology at Electrify America and soon-to-be CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “BMW is helping more drivers experience an EV lifestyle by providing range confidence through access to fast, convenient charging while on the road. Working together to increase access to ultra-fast charging is helping to drive EV adoption, leading to a more sustainable transportation future we all deserve.”
The forthcoming BMW i5, the first all-electric version of the popular 5 Series, is scheduled for launch later this year. Notably, the i5 will introduce Plug&Charge payment technology to BMW’s electric vehicle lineup, enabling drivers to seamlessly pay for charging sessions by simply plugging in their EV. This innovative system allows the vehicle to communicate with the charger, facilitating identification, authentication, authorization, and billing processes for a seamless and user-friendly experience.
While the partnership was announced by Electrify America, no similar announcement has been made by Electrify Canada at this time. However, considering their recent collaboration with BMW Group Canada to offer three years of free charging for i7 owners, it is highly likely that a similar program may be introduced for BMW i5 owners in Canada in the near future.
