Einride and PepsiCo have announced a partnership to deploy an electric truck fleet in Memphis, Tennessee, with the goal of electrifying Frito-Lay’s food distribution routes in the area. This collaboration reflects PepsiCo’s aim to reduce its Scope 3 emissions through sustainable freight solutions and follows a previous implementation in the U.K. in 2023.

The initiative involves a fleet of five electric vehicles that are expected to transport over 2,500 loads annually, covering nearly 200,000 miles. This deployment is anticipated to contribute to an annual reduction of approximately 143 metric tons of CO2e emissions. The trucks will be operated by drivers from Frito-Lay’s carrier partner, Armstrong Transportation.

To support this transition, Einride has installed a 700 kW private charging station at Armstrong’s yard, enabling rapid electrification with minimal overhead investments. David Allen, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer for PepsiCo Foods North America, noted the importance of tailored strategies for emissions reduction, stating, “PepsiCo’s decarbonization strategy is not one-size fits all. We’re continuously looking for new and innovative ways to reduce our Scope 3 emissions.”

Robert Falck, CEO and Founder of Einride, commented on the partnership’s significance, stating, “We are proud to deploy our technology in partnership with the PepsiCo team, given their ambition to cut emissions at scale with decarbonized freight. These operations will accelerate a cleaner, more efficient supply chain while demonstrating that electrification of freight operations is feasible.”

Einride has been active in promoting sustainable freight solutions since 2020, assisting partners in reducing emissions by up to 95%. The company’s integrated ecosystem includes electric trucks, charging infrastructure, and a digital freight platform designed to optimize operations and facilitate the transition to sustainable shipping practices. This partnership with PepsiCo is expected to enhance the sustainability of food distribution in Memphis.
