Ecobat, the global leader in battery recycling, has announced its plans to build its first lithium-ion battery recycling facility in North America. The new facility, located in Casa Grande, Arizona, will be Ecobat’s third li-ion battery recycling plant globally, following those in Germany and the United Kingdom.

Ecobat’s expansion into lithium-ion battery recycling is a significant milestone for the company’s strategy to grow its lithium-ion battery recycling business to a scale comparable to its world-leading lead battery recycling business. The new facility will initially produce approximately 10,000 tons of recycled material per year, with plans to expand capacity to meet the growing demand in the shift to electrification.

Through diagnostics, sorting, shredding, and material separation, Ecobat Casa Grande will repurpose end-of-life li-ion batteries. The facility will launch in the third quarter of this year and will be located near Ecobat Resources Arizona, which has been producing anodes for 15 years.

Ecobat’s CEO, Marcus Randolph, expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility, stating, “We are thrilled to grow our global lithium-ion battery recycling footprint with a new facility in Casa Grande, Arizona.” He added that the facility represents a significant milestone in Ecobat’s efforts to expand its lithium-ion battery recycling business.

With 12 secondary smelting facilities, a primary smelting facility, three lithium-focused facilities, a collection truck fleet, and 65,000 battery collection points, Ecobat is a major player in the battery recycling industry. In 2021, Ecobat’s lead battery recycling business fully recycled 70 million car batteries, further cementing the company’s position as a leader in sustainable battery recycling.
