Stellantis’ premium brand, DS Automobiles, has officially introduced its new flagship model, the DS N°8, an all-electric SUV coupé that aims to redefine the luxury electric vehicle (EV) market. This new model will be the first from DS to launch exclusively with an electric powertrain and is set to offer impressive features, including a WLTP range of up to 750 kilometres. The vehicle will be available to order from early 2025, with a market launch expected around mid-2025.
At 4.82 metres in length, the DS N°8 is slightly longer than the Tesla Model Y (4.75 metres), but it is still considered a luxury class vehicle, as defined by German premium standards. Despite its size, DS has opted for a platform from the STLA Medium range rather than the larger STLA Large, positioning the N°8 as a lighter and more compact luxury SUV.
It is a pure 400-volt electric vehicle, with two battery options available: a 74 kWh standard battery and a larger 97.2 kWh long-range battery. The long-range version with a 180 kW front-wheel drive can achieve a range of 750 kilometres, aided by optimized aerodynamics, including a low drag coefficient of 0.24.
The DS N°8 is designed to offer rapid charging capabilities, with both battery versions supporting a maximum charging power of 160 kW. With a battery preconditioning system in place, the vehicle can recharge from 20% to 80% in just 27 minutes, while 200 kilometres of range can be restored in 10 minutes.
Additionally, the vehicle supports AC charging at 11 kW, with an optional 22 kW charger available later. The batteries are supplied by the ACC factory in Douvrin, France, while the electric motors are developed and manufactured at the NPE joint venture in Trémery, France.
The design of the DS N°8 reflects the brand’s focus on luxury, sophistication, and aerodynamic efficiency. It features narrow headlights with three horizontal modules, illuminated DS Luminascreen grilles, and a sleek, aerodynamic body that minimizes drag.
The car also offers a luxurious interior with French-inspired comfort, including front seats with integrated headrests and neck warmers for added thermal comfort—an uncommon feature in most vehicles, especially in non-convertibles. Connectivity is enhanced with the DS Iris 2.0 operating system, offering features such as voice control and ChatGPT integration for seamless interactions.
The DS N°8 is expected to be equipped with an array of advanced technologies, including an electronically controlled chassis, LED pixel headlights, a head-up display, and various driver assistance systems. One notable innovation is the Wrong Pedal Prevention (WPP) system, which helps prevent accidents caused by driver confusion between the accelerator and brake pedals.
Though pricing details have yet to be revealed, DS Automobiles plans to open order books soon. The DS N°8 will compete in the upper luxury segment of the EV market, offering a mix of performance, style, and cutting-edge technology for discerning customers.
