Pizza delivery giant Domino’s has made a strategic move to bolster its electric delivery fleet in the United States by acquiring over 300 additional 2023 Chevy Bolt EVs. This expansion comes after the company’s initial announcement in November 2022, where it revealed plans to deploy 800 Chevy Bolt EVs as delivery vehicles by the end of this year.
Already, these electric cars are zipping through the streets, transporting piping hot pizzas to hungry customers. Now, Domino’s aims to further amplify its eco-friendly efforts by incorporating more than 300 Chevy Bolts into its EV fleet by the end of 2023. These new additions will be put into service at selected franchise and corporate stores across the country. With this development, Domino’s expects to achieve a total of 1,156 EVs in its delivery fleet by the close of next year.
This noteworthy move positions Domino’s as the frontrunner with the largest EV pizza delivery fleet in the United States. Leveraging electric vehicles for food delivery is an obvious choice for companies like Domino’s. As Joe Jordan, Domino’s President of US and Global Services, pointed out, “We’re continuing to see a wide range of advantages from using EVs. In addition to business and environmental benefits, an electric delivery fleet also helps with hiring drivers, as they open up a whole new pool of job candidates who may not have their own vehicles.”
However, with the discontinuation of the 2023 Chevy Bolt by General Motors (GM), Domino’s will need to reconsider its choice of “official car” for its electric delivery fleet. GM made the decision to end production of the Bolt due to its shift towards the Ultium platform for its EV portfolio. It is worth noting that GM plans to introduce the affordable Chevy Equinox EV, expected to start at around $30,000, as a replacement for the Bolt. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising to witness Domino’s embrace the Equinox EV as its new official vehicle.
As Domino’s fortifies its commitment to sustainable operations, the expansion of its electric delivery fleet serves as a testament to its dedication to environmental responsibility. By opting for electric vehicles, Domino’s not only reduces its carbon footprint but also taps into a broader pool of potential drivers who may not possess personal vehicles. This move highlights the company’s progressive approach to meet evolving consumer expectations and contribute to a greener future.
