Daimler Truck’s newest brand of all-electric vehicles, RIZON, has announced the Canadian launch of its class 4-5 trucks, marking its entry into the Canadian market. The RIZON trucks will be available for preorders starting in June 2024, offering Canadian customers a range of versatile and sustainable transportation solutions.
RIZON trucks, which made their debut in the U.S. in 2023, are already in operation on American streets, serving a diverse range of customers. In Canada, RIZON will offer four model variants, including the e16L, e16M, e18L, and e18M, each tailored to meet the unique requirements of customers, with gross vehicle weights ranging from 15,995 to 18,850 pounds.
These all-electric trucks can travel up to 257 km on a single charge (for the L size variant with 3 battery packs) and up to 177 km (for the M size variant with 2 battery packs), making them suitable for various applications such as dry vans, flatbeds, landscape dumps, and reefers. They also feature an electric power take-off (ePTO), controllable from the cab, enabling the use of specialized equipment such as reefer belt drives and hydraulic pumps.
Safety is a key focus for RIZON trucks, with advanced passive and active safety systems designed to protect drivers, passengers, and communities. These systems include Active Brake Assist and Active Side Guard Assist, providing additional security in stop-and-go traffic and congested urban areas.
In addition to safety, RIZON trucks address the challenge of cold-weather performance with an electric preconditioning function that optimizes battery performance in cold temperatures. They also offer heated features for driver comfort, including a heated seat, steering wheel, and windshield.
RIZON trucks qualify for the Canadian government’s Incentives for Medium- and Heavy-Duty-Zero-Vehicles (iMHZEV) program, providing approximately $75,000 in incentives at the point of sale. Additional provincial incentives are available in British Columbia and Quebec.
With a strong connection to Daimler Truck’s portfolio, RIZON trucks benefit from the company’s expertise in designing and building commercial vehicles. They also leverage proprietary connectivity services from RIZONCONNECT, a fully integrated active safety system, and financing options from Daimler Truck Financial Services.
