General Motors (GM) marked a significant international debut as the Chevy Silverado EV, the electric variant of its iconic pickup, was showcased at the China International Import Expo. This event, recognized as the world’s largest import show, served as the platform for GM’s foray into China’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

The appearance of the Chevy Silverado EV at the Expo comes as part of GM’s broader strategy to leverage China’s thriving EV sector. GM established The Durant Guild, a premium import business named after GM founder Billy Durant, with the aim of expanding its renowned brands across China. The launch of this business last year signaled GM’s intent to enter new market segments in the region.

Julian Blisset, President of GM China, highlighted the significance of The Durant Guild, stating that it would facilitate the entry into diverse market segments in China. The business initiated its presence through one-week pop-up events in Shanghai, featuring vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV.

Buoyed by positive reception, GM elevated its outreach efforts by participating in the China International Import Expo. The Expo showcased several new models, with the Silverado EV taking center stage. GM presented the Silverado EV RST trim, echoing the concept unveiled at CES 2022.

Built on the Ultium platform, the same foundation powering the Hummer EV, the electric Silverado boasts an impressive range of up to 450 miles. Additionally, it delivers a robust performance with up to 754 horsepower and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, as demonstrated in a tow test against a gas-powered F-150.

GM emphasized the Silverado EV’s prominence at the Expo, reflecting the company’s commitment to showcasing its electric offerings on the global stage. The move underscores GM’s strategic approach to tap into the growing demand for electric vehicles in China, a market poised for continued expansion.
