Cabify and Polestar have inked a landmark agreement aimed at transforming the private hire vehicle (PHV) sector in Barcelona and Madrid, marking a significant step towards decarbonizing urban transportation.

Under the agreement, a fleet of 100 electric cars, specifically the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor Plus models, will be deployed across the two largest Spanish cities. Barcelona and Madrid will each receive fifty of these vehicles, operated by Vecttor, a subsidiary of the Cabify group.

The Polestar 2, known for its recent updates and impressive urban range of up to 655 kilometers, will play a pivotal role in reducing environmental impact compared to combustion models. It is estimated that this initiative will save over 500,000 liters of fuel and mitigate approximately 800 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Furthermore, the collaboration allows companies and freelancers affiliated with Cabify in Barcelona or Madrid to purchase Polestar vehicles at discounted rates, promoting wider adoption of electric mobility among professionals in the ride-hailing sector.

“This acquisition of 100% electric vehicles underscores Cabify’s commitment to Barcelona, promoting efficient and environmentally friendly urban mobility,” stated Javier Dorado, Cabify’s Director of Public Affairs in Spain. Pedro Parra, Commercial Director of Polestar Spain, emphasized the strategic importance of such agreements for Polestar, enhancing visibility and accelerating the shift towards 100% electric mobility.

Cabify, a prominent player in urban transportation with a strong presence in Spain and Latin America, recently secured $110 million in investment towards expanding its footprint. The move aligns with Cabify’s goal to deploy 1,400 electric vehicles across Spain in the coming years, underscoring its dedication to sustainable transportation solutions.

With over 50 million registered users globally, 1.5 million driver partners, and a robust operational workforce, Cabify continues to drive innovation in the ride-hailing industry while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
