BYD is refreshing its Seal lineup in China, introducing advanced technologies and new models to enhance its electric vehicle offerings. The updated Seal sedan now features an 800-volt platform, a LiDAR sensor for improved driver assistance systems, and new battery options. Additionally, BYD is launching the Seal 07 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid variant, marking the Seal as the first vehicle to utilize the new e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture.
The 2025 Seal model year introduces both the all-electric version and the Seal 07 DM-i hybrid in China. The updated Seal, available at prices starting from 175,800 yuan (approximately 22,500 euros), offers a top-end all-wheel-drive variant priced at 239,800 yuan (around 33,400 USD). The 800V platform in the new Seal enables rapid charging, with the vehicle capable of reaching a 10%-80% charge in just 25 minutes. The LiDAR sensor, mounted on the roof, enhances the vehicle’s driver assistance capabilities, a significant upgrade for the lineup.
The Seal sedan’s performance is also improved, with the top variant achieving a maximum speed of 240 kph and accelerating from 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds. The vehicle offers two battery options—61.44 kWh and 80.64 kWh—providing a CLTC range of 510 km to 650 km. The base model features a 170 kW rear motor, while the more powerful versions offer a 230 kW motor. The top trim variant includes a 390 kW all-wheel-drive system.
BYD’s new hybrid, the Seal 07 DM-i, is available in two configurations: one with a 1.5-litre engine producing 74 kW paired with a 160 kW electric motor, and another with a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine delivering 115 kW alongside a 200 kW electric motor. These hybrids offer electric ranges of 70 km and 125 km, respectively, under the CLTC cycle, and can charge wirelessly with up to 50W. The hybrid models also include Level 2 driving assistance and a range of comfort features.
Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD’s Ocean series, emphasized the company’s focus on four key models—the Seagull, Dolphin, Seal, and Sealion—highlighting the Seal as the dedicated sedan lineup. BYD has also been expanding its international presence, recently opening a new factory in Thailand and announcing plans for a plant in Indonesia. The Seal model was introduced to the Mexican market at the end of last year.
“Our focus on technological advancements and strategic model offerings underscores BYD’s commitment to leading the electric vehicle industry,” said Zhang Zhuo, BYD’s General Manager of the Ocean series, at the event.
