Bridgestone has been selected by Audi to create ultra-high-performance tyres for the new Audi e-tron GT family, continuing their established partnership. Approximately 20% of Audi vehicles sold globally are equipped with Bridgestone tyres, indicating a strong collaborative history. The new tyre is designed to align with Audi’s commitment to high performance.
The tyre, named Bridgestone Potenza Sport A, aims to enhance the capabilities of the Audi e-tron GT. It has undergone extensive testing and has been homologated as an original equipment (OE) tyre by Audi, meeting the performance standards required for Audi’s latest electric models.
The Potenza Sport A is notable for being the first mass-produced tyre from Bridgestone to incorporate 55% recycled and renewable materials, certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS. Steven De Bock, Vice President of Original Equipment at Bridgestone EMEA, remarked on the importance of sustainability in the development of high-performance tyres.
This new tyre claims to provide improved energy efficiency and extended battery range for the Audi e-tron GT, which can achieve a range of around 500 km. It holds an EU label A grade for rolling resistance and wet grip, contributing to driver control and complementing the vehicle’s steering response.
The Potenza Sport A features a unique tread design and reinforcement technology tailored specifically for the e-tron GT. Robin Stettner, a tyre development engineer at AUDI AG, emphasized the performance and safety attributes of the Bridgestone tyre in meeting Audi’s standards.
Developed with sustainability in mind, the Potenza Sport A utilises Bridgestone’s ENLITEN Technology to enhance its environmental characteristics while ensuring it is suitable for electric vehicles. This technology aims to reduce environmental impact through lower CO2 emissions and improved resource efficiency.
The Bridgestone Potenza Sport A tyre represents a step in Bridgestone’s commitment to utilizing 100% sustainable materials by 2050. It will be available in sizes 265/35 R21 101XL Y (front) and 305/30 R21 104XL Y (rear) and will be manufactured at Bridgestone’s plant near Rome, Italy, which operates entirely on electric power sourced from renewable energy.
