The company’s executives expressed their satisfaction with the results and attributed the success to their ability to provide the market with the right products at the right time. Pieter Nota, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customers, Brands, and Sales, stated that the strong sales growth, particularly in the fully-electric vehicle segment, demonstrates the effectiveness of their product lineup. He emphasized that the BMW Group will continue to accelerate its efforts in electromobility throughout the second half of the year, appealing to a wide range of customer needs worldwide.
However, while BEV sales soared, plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) sales showed signs of weakening, currently reaching approximately half the volume of BEV sales.
The total sales of rechargeable cars, which include BEVs and PHEVs, accounted for more than one-fifth of the total sales volume, underscoring the growing importance of electrified vehicles in BMW’s lineup. Looking ahead, the BMW Group is set to introduce several highly anticipated electric models, including the fully-electric BMW i5, which encompasses the i5 M60 and i5 Series Touring, as well as the BMW iX2 and BMW i7 M70. Furthermore, the company reported an overwhelming response to the all-electric Rolls-Royce Spectre super coupé, with orders already booked until the end of 2024, surpassing expectations.
The BMW Group has made a steadfast commitment to significantly increase the proportion of fully-electric vehicles in its lineup. By 2024, the company aims to ensure that at least one in every five new vehicles it sells will have a fully-electric drivetrain. This ambitious plan will see the share of BEVs rise to one in four vehicles by 2025 and one in three vehicles by 2026, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility and addressing the diverse needs of customers worldwide.
