Blink Charging has announced plans to assist electric vehicle (EV) charging station hosts impacted by Enel X’s recent decision to exit the North American market. Following Enel X’s announcement to close its operations, Blink is providing a pathway for former JuiceBox customers to transition their EV charging services to Blink.
Enel X’s withdrawal has left many customers who purchased the JuiceBox home charging station in a difficult position, as the company will discontinue all software and connectivity services. While an interim solution for commercial JuiceBox networks has been secured with ChargeLab taking over, private customers found themselves without support.
In response, Blink Charging is stepping in with an offer designed to ease this transition. The company stated, “When you sign up for a revenue share program, Blink covers the cost of your EV charging equipment, along with warranty and maintenance.” Customers are only required to “prepare their space,” while Blink will manage the rest of the setup. Notably, existing JuiceBox charging stations will be upgraded at no cost, as Blink plans to replace outdated hardware.
Michael Battaglia, COO and CEO-Elect of Blink Charging, emphasized the company’s commitment to facilitating EV charging, stating, “We’re focused on removing the obstacles to EV charging and making this investment beneficial for everyone involved. A rewarding investment comes from the confidence that the company and its products will remain reliable and innovative.” He added that Blink’s chargers are built to support future advancements, such as vehicle-to-grid technology, with inventory ready for immediate deployment.
Despite this proactive approach, Blink Charging has recently faced challenges, including significant layoffs that will affect 14% of its global workforce. The company described this move as a “cost-cutting measure that will lead to annual savings of around $9 million.” Additionally, a new CEO was appointed in late August.
Previously, Blink Charging had been on an expansion trajectory, establishing a new headquarters in Maryland and launching a new product in the UK and Ireland in November.
