BCA Launches EV Battery Health Grading Service to Boost Confidence in Used EV Market

BCA has introduced an EV Battery Health Grading service, giving used electric vehicle (EV) buyers detailed insights into battery condition and transparency in the purchasing process.

The new service, supported by the AVILOO battery testing system, assesses traction battery health in used EVs and is expected to accompany BCA’s 40,000 EV sales projected for the next 12 months.

According to BCA COO Stuart Pearson, the rapid growth in EV volumes at BCA’s online auctions has fueled advancements in remarketing services. “Thanks to our continued investment in infrastructure and support services, our customers remain best placed when it comes to selling or buying used electric vehicles,” he stated. The grading service aims to eliminate uncertainties in EV resale, with battery health data now accessible on vehicle listings, Live Bidding screens, and search results.

The grading service uses AVILOO’s ‘FLASH Test,’ operated via a test box connected to an EV’s On-Board Diagnostics interface. The test evaluates battery capacity, displays issues through “red flags” for faulty modules, and assigns a grading from A to E.

Pearson highlighted the benefit to sellers, noting the grading helps resolve potential issues ahead of sale, potentially increasing residual values. The FLASH Test report, which BCA customers can access after the sale, provides detailed battery data to support transparency and facilitate smoother retail processes.

AVILOO CEO Marcus Berger expressed confidence in the partnership, noting the FLASH Test’s coverage of 95% of EV brands aligns with BCA’s extensive remarketing network.

He added that a reliable and transparent testing process is essential to building trust in the used EV market. As the sector grows, BCA’s battery grading service aims to streamline used EV transactions and provide critical battery health information to buyers and sellers alike.
