A Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington, sustained significant damage in an early morning explosion on Tuesday, prompting an investigation led by local authorities and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), officials said.
The blast, which occurred around 1:34 a.m. near a Target store, destroyed a power cabinet and heavily damaged associated electrical switchgear serving the 12-stall Supercharger facility. No injuries were reported.

Lacey Police Department officers responded to multiple reports of a loud explosion and secured the area shortly after the incident. “We are currently working with our detective unit in cooperation with our federal partners to investigate and expect to be out here for some time today,” said Detective Sergeant Jeremy Knight of the Lacey Police Department.
Tesla confirmed the incident via a statement on X, formerly Twitter, stating, “We’re on-site with Lacey Police and FBI, and reviewing camera footage. Also coordinating with Puget Sound Energy to get the Superchargers back online asap. Don’t mess with critical infrastructure.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive but are treating the explosion as a potential act of domestic terrorism. The FBI, which has assumed a lead role in the case, is working alongside local officials to examine whether the attack was part of a broader trend of vandalism targeting Tesla and other electric vehicle infrastructure.

In recent months, Tesla facilities worldwide have faced an uptick in acts of vandalism, including graffiti, tire slashing, and arson. This incident marks a more serious escalation. The federal government earlier this year authorized the FBI to oversee investigations into similar cases, following a decision to classify such acts as potential domestic terrorism.
