New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has revealed a series of ambitious climate goals aimed at achieving 100% clean energy usage by 2035. Northvolt, a Swedish lithium-ion battery manufacturer, is reportedly close to hiring banks for an initial public offering (IPO) that could value the company at more than $20 billion. Sources close to the matter informed Reuters that Northvolt, which counts BMW and Volkswagen among its investors, is expected to tap Goldman Sachs Group and Morgan Stanley to lead a stock market launch. ElectricBrands, a German electric vehicle (EV) developer, has partnered with Dutch car manufacturer VDL Nedcar to manufacture its XBUS and Evetta models. The VDL Nedcar plant, located in Born, the western part of the Netherlands, will be the production site for these light EVs. BorgWarner, a global automotive supplier, has announced its plan to expand its 400V inverter business by now offering 800V silicon carbide-based (SiC) inverters for battery electric vehicle (BEV) platforms. The company has partnered with a major global original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to supply high-voltage inverters for their passenger BEVs. The new inverters will come in two variants, a 250kW version for passenger cars and all-wheel-drive crossover utility vehicles, and a 350kW module for performance vehicles. Ford announced plans to cut 3,800 jobs in Europe over the next three years as part of its strategy to streamline operations and prioritize electric vehicle production. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has recently unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform its taxi fleet into 100% environmentally friendly vehicles. Zoox, a self-driving taxi service owned by Amazon, has begun ferrying employees in Foster City, California using its robotaxis. This marks the first time in history that a purpose-built autonomous taxi without manual controls has transported passengers on open public roads, the company said in a tweet. Nissan is recalling approximately 64,700 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles of the second generation (2018-23) due to a manual error. The manual provides incorrect instructions on how to operate the defroster, leading to decreased defroster performance. The manual states that the maximum fan speed should be engaged, but this actually causes the heater to enter fail-safe mode, limiting the defroster’s output. The Saarland state in Germany will not block Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD from potentially becoming an investor in a Ford car plant. Redwood Materials, a battery recycling and manufacturing company, has received a significant boost in its efforts to expand its domestic operations. The Department of Energy has committed to providing a $2 billion loan for Redwood Materials’ massive 173-acre facility located at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, east of Reno-Sparks. Despite market pressure from electric vehicle giant, Tesla, Volvo Cars has announced that they have no plans to lower the prices of their electric vehicles. Nikola has received approval from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to participate in its Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) program. The approval will allow customers of Nikola’s Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle to receive point-of-sale incentives starting at $240,000 and going up to $288,000 per truck in 2023. Additionally, customers will be eligible for a $40,000 federal clean commercial vehicle tax credit.
