With a $160 billion investment, the United States and Europe will be able to reduce their dependence on electric vehicle battery supplies from China, the Financial Times reported on Monday, citing a Goldman Sachs forecast. Demand for electric vehicle batteries could be met without China in the next three to five years, as a result of investments in the US by South Korean conglomerates LG and SK Hynix. Domino’s ordered more than 800 Chevrolet Bolts electric hatchbacks to be used as a pizza delivery fleet. More than 100 Chevrolet Bolts will be delivered to Domina this month. The remaining units will begin shipping in late 2023. When all 855 Chevrolet Bolts are operational, Domino’s will have the largest electric pizza delivery fleet in the United States. Reports from local news outlets Taiwan Economic Daily and China’s IT House say that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) will be the chip supplier for Tesla that will use its next-generation Full Self-Driving (FSD) computers. According to the report, the chips that TSMC will supply to Tesla will be manufactured on both 4nm and 5nm processes. If the reports are accurate, Tesla will become one of TSMC’s largest and most well-known customers by 2023. Tesla will be TSMC’s first customer in electric vehicle manufacturing on a large scale. Waymo launched an autonomous electric minivan without a steering wheel, pedals or mirrors which is their bet for the future of ride-hailing. The company, which is a subsidiary of Google parent Alphabet, is partnered with Geely Group’s Zeekr brand and has designed it as a ‘transport as a service (TaaS) optimized’ electric vehicle. Data from the Ministry of Agrarian, Infrastructure and Transportation of South Korea shows the number of environmentally friendly cars exceeding 1.5 million units in October 2022. In Detroit, inductive charging technology will be coupled to two short roads, making it the first wireless electric road system (ERS) in the US. Lyft and driverless technology company Motional will launch a driverless ride-hailing service in Los Angeles, using the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Tesla targets to produce 100 Semi electric trucks this year. The Tesla Semi truck entered production early last October at a factory near the Gigafactory Nevada, USA.
