Atlante, a player in the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure market, has teamed up with Shift4, a global payment technology provider, to enhance the payment experience at Atlante’s charging stations across Southern Europe. The partnership aims to simplify the payment process, making clean mobility more accessible and consumer-friendly.
“With approximately 7.8 million electric vehicles on European roads alone in 2022, EV infrastructure in Europe is lagging,” the partners stated. They highlighted the need to address not only the lack of infrastructure but also the complex and inconvenient payment experiences at public charging stations.
While details about the charging infrastructure were not extensively provided, Atlante had previously announced its reliance on Wallbox Chargers for its Southern European network. The company will utilize Wallbox’s Supernova fast-charging stations, delivering either 60 or 150 kW, following the latest upgrade.
The payment solution, launched in Italy and France, is set to expand to Spain and Portugal by early 2024. Despite being slightly behind schedule, this initiative represents a significant step in Atlante’s plans to establish the largest fast and ultra-fast EV charging network across Southern Europe, fully enabled by renewables, and enhanced by energy storage and on-site photovoltaic systems.
Sveta Bulshtein, Vice President of Business Development at Shift4, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Innovation within emerging verticals is in our DNA, and working with a company like Atlante to transform the electric vehicle charging ecosystem aligns perfectly with our future-forward approach.” Bulshtein emphasized the companies’ shared goal of revolutionizing the EV charging experience in Southern Europe.
